Bonneville Surgery Center is a new ambulatory medical care center in Idaho Falls, located on the corner of Woodruff Avenue and 17th Street. Derek Van Orden, a project manager for the center, called it a great offering to the community.

“We’re the only independent ambulatory surgery center in the area that’s multi-specialty, or that has the breadth of the specialties that we do, and that’s something we want to shout from the rooftops to really educate and form the patient,” said Derek.

Ambulatory centers, also known as outpatient centers, can be great options for people seeking medical procedures because they typically provide same-day surgeries and do not require overnight stays.

“As you’re considering surgery, more and more, the population is looking into the total cost, and for those on high deductibles, it just makes a lot of sense to consider having your surgery in an ambulatory surgery center,” added Derek.

He said ambulatory centers can save patients 40 to 60 percent on costs compared to what the same procedures could cost at the hospital. While not all surgeries can be done in an ambulatory center, Bonneville Surgery Center offers many options, such as: general surgery, gynecological surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, and pediatric dentistry.

Adam Shurtz, an administrator for Bonneville Surgery Center, says there’s a cost effective one-time fee for surgeries done there. He said they can do complex procedures such as lumbar fusions, cervical fusions and total knees and total hips.

“We’re going to be the cheapest place to be able to do those surgeries if you don’t have insurance,” said Adam. “We can get patients in and out and then get them home healing for a lot less money.”

Derek said the center is held to hospital level standards for high-quality outcomes.

“It’s safe, it’s clean, it’s low risk,” said the project manager. “It’s really the place to do the majority of your outpatient surgery cases where you don’t need to be observed and kept overnight.”

He also added that he hopes people can realize they have options when it comes to medical care.

“I think some people are fearful of hospitals in general, right?” said Derek. “This has a little bit more of a clinic kind of feel to it. It’s physician-owned, and these physicians have your best interest at heart. You’re working with the same physicians that you would be having surgery from at the hospital, so, come check us out.”

The administrator for Bonneville Surgery Center said the center offers cash rates and contracts with insurance.
“Even if your physician doesn’t go to Bonneville Surgery Center, we would love them to come to Bonneville Surgery Center,” Adam said. “If you want to go outpatient surgery, we would like to be your facility of choice.”

Bonneville Surgery Center is open Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. To learn more or schedule a surgery, visit bonnevillesurgery.com or call 208-715-8220.
